Dedicated to the memory of Barrie Axtell

Barrie spent nearly 40 years working in agro-processing in developing countries, providing technical assistance and training. Some of this time was spent in Uganda, so he therefore chose World Vision Uganda as the charity of choice.

Donations will go towards a program in the Kiboga region of Western Uganda, bordering with the Democratic Republic of Congo in which World Vision has been working  for twenty years. It is a very rural area, relying mainly on subsistence farming and the growing of maize, sorghum and millet. Rainfall is reasonable in good years, but there are many droughts. The main projects that World Vision is concentrating on are drinking water and sanitation, as children have to walk long distances to fetch water, and diarrhoea is a major scourge. Education and nutrition are also important activities.
